Training in Aikido involves a rigorous practice of a pattern of well-defined self-defense techniques to control a bigger, stronger, and faster person. Aikido does not rely on speed or force, but uses throws, submissive pins, and joint locks to control a person. Traditional Japanese weapons (staff, sword, and knife) are also used during training.
